A Wink from the Universe
I recently attended a breathwork training at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, taught by David Elliott, and he was talking about synchronicity and skepticism. It reminded me of how many of my friends, who are genuinely curious about spirituality and growth, still say things like: “I’m open-minded, but I’m skeptical.”
I get it. I really do. Everyone’s on their own path, but for me, synchronicity is like a nudge from the universe. Yet just because I see it that way doesn’t mean everyone else does.
As I’ve aligned more and more to the vibration of love, to truth, and to my soul’s purpose, I’ve experienced more synchronicity than ever before. I’ve been seeing signs and patterns for years, but lately, it’s been insane, in a good way.
Animals have been acting strangely around me. My friend Kevin, who’s been staying with me in Connecticut, had a hummingbird hover right in front of his third eye for like 30 seconds. A week later, the exact same thing happened to me. Neither of us had told the other until after the fact.
We’re also constantly seeing 11:11 on our phones, on invoices, on GPS arrival times. Independent of one another, in different places. It just keeps happening.
And to me, it’s not random. I believe Gaia is trying to bring balance, to uplift women and to help us align the divine masculine and feminine within ourselves and around us. That’s what 1111 means to me. It’s like a cosmic breadcrumb trail saying: You’re on the right path.
The Rainbow and the Message
A Bridge to Something Sacred
So here’s my favorite synchronicity story. Two years ago, I hosted a group of healers up in Connecticut at my home above Lake Waramaug. It was sort of a practice run for future retreats, creating this sacred space for women whom I love and who respect themselves and each other.
Right before the weekend, I got a text from my dear friend Martin Crespo, a powerful healer and someone who’s helped me stay on this planet through some very dark times. He sent me this message:
“The universe is going to send you a message that your choices and your actions are correct.”
Okay, I thought. Cool. Let’s see what shows up.
The weekend was amazing. There was deep healing, joy, and sisterhood. On the last day, we went for a hike at Bee Brook, this magical place near Washington Depot. It started to sprinkle, and as I was driving my Jeep (her name is Lola) back to my house with Sheila, Jamie and Paola we were talking about rainbows. As we drove up a hill past this small inn, suddenly, there it was: The most incredible rainbow I have ever seen!
What was unique about this rainbow was that you could see the entire thing, both the start of it and the end of it. It arched all the way from my property, dipping across the center of Lake Waramaug. There’s a lot of ancestral energy near this lake, because Chief Waramaug ruled that whole area where my house is in the mountains.
It felt like it was bridging something ancient and sacred. The whole sky lit up. Cars stopped. People poured out of buildings. It was one of those rare, mystical moments when strangers come together to witness something holy.
I got out of Lola, while Sheila, Jamie, and Paola were already outside taking pictures. Then this very handsome man walks past me and says, “Do you like that? I made that for you.” I see this hawk swooping over his head. Then he just walks away and I’m thinking, who does that? What just happened? Then I get this feeling that it all means something.
We all got back in Lola to head home and one of the women in the car said, “Do you know who that was?” I said, “I have no idea but he was very handsome!” She said, “That was Ethan Hawke!” Then Sheila said, “And a hawk is a sign of spirit!”
Okay. Ethan Hawke comes over to tell me he made a rainbow as a hawk circles over his head! You can’t make this stuff up!
The Universe’s Wink
From Vision Board to Real Life
Three weeks later, some of the women came back to my house for a little reunion. We were sitting around the dining table, sipping herbal tea, talking about the retreat and all the synchronicities.
Someone brought up the V Club in New York City, a woman’s healing space I discovered immediately after leaving my life and marriage of 26 years…ouch! I told them I had made a vision board there on New Year’s Eve a few years back, during my divorce. My friend Esther said, “I was there too!”
I went upstairs, pulled out the vision board from a drawer, and brought it into the living room. Esther looked at it and shouted: “Maria! Do you know who that man is on your vision board?!”
I looked and said, “No… I just thought he was good-looking.” Esther exclaimed, “That’s Ethan Hawke.”
I had put Ethan Hawke on my vision board years before the rainbow. Also on that board? Phrases like performing miracles, beyond purpose, manifestation, circles of women, total divine feminine energy. These are all the things I’ve now brought into my life and created with Gaia Goddess.
So, that’s my favorite synchronicity story. And you know what, I have a feeling I’m going to have more. There are going to be more because I am walking my walk, I am doing the work, I’m manifesting, I’m trusting, surrendering, and healing. I’m doing all the things that I need to do to live a purpose-driven life of miracles.
Synchronicity is a wink from the universe. It’s a divine pat on the back saying, “Well done, my dear. Keep going.”
