Sometimes You Forget That You Are Not Separate From Nature
The same intelligence that tells a seed to sprout, that pulls the tides and shapes the land, is alive in you too. Your body and the Earth share the same ancient rhythm, always moving toward balance. And Gaia, the living Earth, reflects something of the divinity that lives within you.
Your body is remarkably wise. Every organ, gland, and cell is in constant conversation with the others, working to keep things in balance. Even when symptoms show up, your body is not failing you. It is working hard for you, trying to bring something back into equilibrium.
Perhaps The Earth Is Not So Different
Gaia is also a complex, interconnected system. Her oceans, forests, atmosphere, animals, rivers, and weather patterns are all part of one larger conversation. Like your body, she is constantly adjusting, responding, and seeking balance.
When we experience unusual weather, unseasonable temperatures, droughts, floods or rising sea levels, we can view them as symptoms of a system under stress. These are signs that a living planet is responding to changes in its environment.
When you feel exhausted, your body may be telling you that something needs to change. A rash can point to irritation. Constipation may be a sign that something has become stagnant. The very symptoms we often complain about can, in a strange way, be gifts. They are messages from the body, communicating with us all the time.
Perhaps Earth’s symptoms are not so different. Rather than seeing them as random inconveniences, we might view them as signals inviting us to pay attention. Just as healing begins when we listen to our bodies, restoring balance begins when we listen to the Earth.
Every Action Matters
I understand it can feel really overwhelming when we start thinking about all the changes we’re supposed to make to be green,” says Gaia Goddess Founder & CEO Maria Marshall. “You can feel like you’re being judged, and if you can’t do it perfectly, you end up doing nothing at all.
But I truly believe that each of us can choose one simple act, that when combined, can and will help restore balance to the Earth: plant a little garden or tree, put out a few pots, or filter water at home. I’ve done these things myself, and it feels incredibly satisfying because I know that all of our small changes, combined, can help restore balance to the Earth.
For me, that’s meant replacing paper towels and disposable household products with glass containers and reusable cloths and napkins. In both the city and the country, I’ve found convenient ways to compost food scraps, and my family now drinks only filtered water… no more half-empty plastic bottles sitting on the kitchen counter after every get-together!
Caring for Gaia doesn’t require perfection and none of us has to do everything, but if each of us commits to doing one thing, together we can make a meaningful difference.”
The Earth Has Her Own Language
Coastlines shift, rainfall moves in odd and new patterns, and glaciers melt and retreat. These are not random events, but signals from an interconnected living system seeking to restore itself.
A forest is not just trees. It is roots and fungi, insects and birds, soil and water, all in relationship. You are built the same way. Your emotional health shapes your physical health, and your thoughts influence your nervous system. Experiences live in your body. Nothing exists in isolation.
And perhaps that is one of Gaia’s greatest lessons. When something feels out of balance, the answer is not judgment. It is awareness. Your body is not punishing you when it sends a symptom. It is asking you to listen.
The Earth has frozen and thawed, expanded and contracted, renewed itself for millions of years. Through every change, she keeps moving toward balance, and so do you.
You are made from the same elements as the oceans, the mountains, and the forests. The intelligence that guides nature’s cycles is present within you, quietly working every moment of every day.
And healing, whether in a woman or a planet, is often nothing more, and nothing less, than the continual journey back to harmony.
