In this gentle seated somatic stretching practice, Grace Magnusson guides you through mindful movement, conscious breathing, self-touch, and grounding techniques designed to help you reconnect with yourself and create space to feel centered in the present moment. Through slow, intentional movement, you’ll explore the relationship between physical sensation, personal space, and energetic boundaries while releasing tension held throughout the body. This accessible practice can be especially supportive when you’re feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or scattered, offering an opportunity to slow down and return your awareness to the body and the earth beneath you.
A Somatic Practice for Boundaries & Reconnection
The practice begins with a seated forward fold, using the support of the chair and the floor to create a sense of grounding. Grace guides you through ankle circles, foot massage, figure-four stretches, hip opening, seated cat-cow, side bends, and gentle twists, inviting you to notice areas of tension without forcing the body into a particular shape. Through conscious breathing and mindful movement, you’ll explore greater space through the feet, hips, spine, and side body while developing a deeper awareness of your body’s signals. The practice closes with gentle self-touch and sweeping movements across the legs, belly, rib cage, heart, shoulders, neck, and head, bringing awareness back to the present moment and the body’s energetic field.
Grounding Through the Body
Grounding doesn’t always require complicated practice. Sometimes it can begin with simply feeling your feet against the earth, noticing your breath, or bringing your awareness back to physical sensation. Throughout this somatic practice, Grace uses slow movement and conscious breathing to help you reconnect with your body and cultivate greater presence. By bringing attention to the feet, belly, rib cage, heart, spine, and breath, you can explore grounding as a physical experience of coming back to yourself and creating space between what has already happened, what may be coming next, and the moment you’re experiencing right now.
A Gentle Practice for Coming Back to Yourself
This seated practice is accessible and adaptable, making it a supportive option for days when you want movement without an intense physical workout. You can practice from a chair or couch and modify the stretches according to your body’s needs. Whether you’re looking for grounding practices, somatic movement, mindful stretching, or simply a few quiet moments to reconnect with yourself, this practice offers space to slow down, listen inward, and cultivate greater body awareness.
