Ji Ben Gong: Foundational Qigong Warm-Up for Fascia, Mobility & Energy Flow

Prepare your body, calm your mind, and awaken your life force with this traditional Ji Ben Gong Qigong practice led by Dr. Judith Ehrman-Shapiro. Often translated as “foundational exercises,” Ji Ben Gong is a gentle sequence designed to warm the body, mobilize the joints, and “floss” the fascia—the connective tissue network that supports every movement throughout the body.

Whether practiced on its own or as a preparation for more advanced Qigong, yoga, or mindful movement, Ji Ben Gong helps improve mobility, increase circulation, cultivate body awareness, and prepare the nervous system for deeper healing practices. Beginning with the foundational Wu Ji stance, Dr. Judith guides you through a series of slow, intentional movements that mobilize the neck, shoulders, spine, hips, knees, ankles, and feet while encouraging the smooth circulation of Qi (life force energy).

Throughout the practice, you’ll learn how proper alignment, relaxed movement, and mindful breathing work together to create greater ease throughout the body. Dr. Judith reminds us that Qigong is never about forcing movement or pushing through pain. Instead, each exercise invites you to listen deeply to your body, work within your natural range of motion, and move with presence, curiosity, and compassion.

Suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, Ji Ben Gong can be practiced standing or seated, making it an accessible daily wellness routine that supports healthy movement, longevity, and embodied wellbeing.
