Six Qi Cultivation: Foundational Qigong for Energy, Balance & Embodied Awareness

Build a strong foundation for your Qigong journey with this essential Six Qi Cultivation practice led by Dr. Judith Ehrman Shapiro. Designed as a core training sequence, this practice introduces the fundamental movement patterns that form the basis of many Qigong traditions, helping you develop confidence, coordination, energetic awareness, and embodied presence.

Through gentle movement, mindful breathwork, and focused attention, Dr. Judith guides you through the six foundational energetic patterns that cultivate the flow of Qi, or life force energy, throughout the body. Rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and moving meditation principles, these exercises help establish alignment, balance, strength, and relaxation while teaching the underlying movement vocabulary used throughout Qigong practice.

Six Foundational Energetic Patterns

Beginning in Wu Ji stance, the posture of emptiness and potential, you’ll explore rising and falling energy and flow into horizontal circles, standing snake body, vertical circles, Lion Plays with the Ball, and two forms of drilling. Together, these movements train the body to move with greater fluidity, awareness, and energetic efficiency while deepening your connection to breath and intention.

Whether you are completely new to Qigong or looking to strengthen your existing practice, Six Qi Cultivation provides a powerful framework for cultivating vitality, focus, resilience, and inner harmony.

Cultivating Qi for Nervous System Activation

This Six Qi Cultivation sequence develops the foundational skills needed for deeper Qigong practice while offering powerful standalone benefits. Benefits include improved balance, posture, and body awareness. Also designed  to reduce stress, creating enhanced mental clarity and focus and activating the nervous system, this is an integrated mind, body, spirit alining practice for beginners.

Judith describes this sequence as the “source code” of Qigong movement, offering students a deeper understanding of the energetic principles that support all future practice. Through repetition and mindful awareness, practitioners learn to embody the flow of energy rather than simply perform movements.
